Welsh Association of Motor Clubs

Issue Number 1: February 2008

Welcome to the first issue of the WAMC Newsletter. The plan is to keep Clubs informed of what is going on, between Centre or Main Meetings, so that anything that needs an urgent response, or is of an important nature, can be distributed quickly.

WAMC Website:
Some of you will have noticed that the WAMC Website was out of commission for a while and was replaced with a statement that was somewhat adrift from the entire facts.
We won’t dwell on that, but will move on, safe in the knowledge that the new Webmaster has responded very quickly to the task and it is working again.
His intention is to maintain it by quickly responding to changes given to him, and he is looking at ways of making it more user-friendly and easier to navigate. He will be grateful for any ideas of what to include on it, so don’t be afraid to contact him with any suggestions.
The web address is:
www.wamcweb.com

MSA Seminar:
The Metropole Hotel, in Llandrindod Wells, is the venue for this year’s MSA Seminar for event officials, on Sunday 17th February. This one is for unlicenced officials and starts at 9.30 a.m., with a planned finished for around 4.30p.m. Make sure that you have informed Richard Nunn, at the MSA, if you are going to attend.

Awards Dinner:
This year’s event seemed to be a great success, following a fraught time for the organisers (by that, I mean Jimmy Jones) as a result of a few people who didn’t read their paperwork properly and then found it difficult to get the tickets they needed. Thankfully, it all turned out well in the end, but it showed how important it is to read the information sent out and act within the laid down timescales.
Alun Morgan was presented with the Wilkinson Sword, and Jimmy Jones received the MSA Silver Tray, in recognition of the effort put in to supporting the WAMC over many years. Mike Taylor received the Wooden Spoon, but seemed bemused about the significance of why he got it – I’ll leave you to come up with your own reasons!
Congratulations to ALL award winners and thanks for supporting the various WAMC Championships. We’d like to see you back again this year, and bring your friends.

Press Officer:
We have been discussing the need for someone to take on this role, for some time and, recently, we have been approached by a few people who have expressed an interest in doing it.
It was decided that Nicola Parker was best-suited to achieve our aims and we have agreed that she will do this for 2008 and we can both review the results at the end of the year.

The primary function is to raise the profile of our various Championships, which should reap benefits for Competitors and Sponsors alike.

 Yearbooks:
Thanks are due to Gethin Rees for taking on the role of Yearbook Editor, vacated by Steve Gregg last year.
Gethin has worked tirelessly to enable this to happen and has incorporated all of the changes to the layout, requested by WAMC Committee members.
We should also thank Steve for his help in the past.
The new layout looks great and all clubs should have received their copies by now. If not, let Gethin or myself know and we’ll get them to you a.s.a.p.

Subscriptions:
Subs are due now, please ensure that you have paid yours and save Mike Taylor the trouble of chasing you – he will do it!

Regional Committee:
The next meeting is Wednesday 27th February. If there are any issues you would like raised, get them to Geoff Field a.s.a.p.

Main Meetings:
April 13th (also A.G.M.)
July 13th, October 26th, January 4th 2009.

Annual Returns:
Please ensure that you complete these as soon as you have changes. Check the website for your Club’s recorded information.
